SPONSOR A HABITAT BUILDING DAY!
Would your Church/OR/Business like to:
¨ change a families life by giving one day of service?
¨ provide meaningful mission service opportunity locally?
¨ unify your members through a group project that can involve all ages?
¨ show Christ’s love to others through selfless service?
Then reserve a Habitat Mission Day & be a blessing to others!
Beginning the last week of May – we will have mission day opportunities at several locations while we build these simple, decent homes for 4 families!
It only takes 8 to12 members from your Church/or/ Business to have a great service day – and not all of them have to swing a hammer… in fact only 5 of them have to do construction work!
¨ One to three (1-3) people should arrive at 7:45 a.m. to the work site to set up the welcome area (coffee/juice, breakfast snack appreciated!), one of these people should be able to lead a devotion/opening prayer. They sign people in and be sure that all have signed waivers and safety policies. These people should leave by 9 a.m.
¨ Five (5) people should arrive by 8 a.m. to the work site to check in and prepare for the work day. They should bring signed waivers and safety policy receipts. No children under the age of 14 are permitted on the work site. Those 16-18 can serve IF the work site has no hazardous equipment on it or the activity is not on the roof – but a special “notarized” waiver form is required to be signed by the parents.
¨ Two to four (2-4) people are needed to arrive by 11:30 a.m. at the work site with LUNCH! These folks have prepared lunch for 15 people and they set it out and serve. One of these folks should bring a small truck – and while lunch is set-up they work with others to clean up construction area and put trash on the truck. After all have eaten – lunch trash is added to the truck – and this VIP person takes it to the landfill to dispose of it in a proper manner.

Remember – flexibility and an open mind to do any type of work or service is key to having a meaningful experience! We can’t all frame the house or paint – and even if we expect to do one thing… we often have to do another! Sometimes, due to weather and/or inspection or subcontractor delay we may have to cancel a lunch or your group entirely! So the group leader needs to have a way to get in touch with all of the key people on their mission team! Peace.

Thank you so much for contacting us about volunteering!
Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro (SAW) Habitat for Humanity is committed to bringing people together to build basic, quality, affordable houses with – and for – God’s people in need. According to local housing experts, more than 1200 families in Staunton, Augusta County, and Waynesboro live in substandard housing.
Through the support of volunteers in the community, we are working together to eliminate poverty housing. Since our beginning in 1993, we have completed thirty -eight (38) homes in our service area and have plans to complete three (3) more this year.
But a Habitat volunteer is more than construction work! Right now some of our pressing needs include:
Volunteer Coordinator (administrative)
General Office Skills (phones, info & filing)
Construction Supervisor (typically a retired building contractor)
Please take look at the enclosed materials and fill out, and return the application to our office. Thank you for your love and willingness to make a life-changing difference in our community through your unselfish contribution of time and talent.
Sincerely,
Volunteer Relations Committee

Habitat for Humanity serves to demonstrate through action the love and teachings of Jesus Christ. It is natural that churches – Christ’s body in the world – should be the primary partners in Habitat’s work. Volunteers on this committee help to foster and maintain working relationships with the churches of our area. Volunteers put their loving concern for people in need by:
¨ Acting as a point of contact for one or more churches
¨ Spreading the word of Habitat by making presentations to church groups
¨ Encouraging people of faith into action by participating in Habitat
¨ Developing the annual “Habitat International Day of Prayer & Action” in churches during the month of September
¨ Maintaining up-to-date information on churches in our area
Habitat has a wonderful story to share and we need volunteers like you to help us get spread the good news throughout our area! Volunteers on this committee help tell the story of Habitat by contacting and working with media organizations about our upcoming events; houses under construction; families who are about to become new homeowners; our history; news about our volunteers; the local businesses and an organizations that support us; as well as the many churches who partner with us to provide decent housing. Volunteers also help to produce a newsletter that goes out three times a year. Please join this committee…we need people like you with great ideas, creativity, and innovative approach to raise the community’s awareness of the Habitat success story.
Members of this committee include licensed professional contractors and semi-skilled workers who ensure the planning and implementation of construction activities for all our homes. This team of volunteers works on:
¨ Identifying building site locations and house plans
¨ Making recommendations to the Board of Directors about housing features, basic components, and materials
¨ Helping to develop project plans and budgets for each construction
¨ Obtaining all necessary permits
¨ Developing work site safety programs
¨ Helping to renovate office and storage facilities
¨ Helping to obtain and organize building materials
¨ Soliciting building material donations
¨ Evaluating construction progress and quality
Volunteers on this committee enjoy the challenge of building low-cost homes that are of quality. Bring your hammer of love and join this committee.
This group of volunteers is critical to what we do at Habitat. Without families, we would not be able to build homes. People on this committee use the love and teachings of Christ to guide them in identifying and selecting partner families for Habitat homes. The important work this group does includes:
¨ Educates prospective applicants about Habitat policies and application
¨ Interviews prospective families, explaining our ministry
¨ Screens & selects the families that meet the criteria
¨ Helps families to prepare financially for homeownership
We believe that a simple, decent, and affordable home is something that can make a difference in the life of a family, especially the children. Make a difference in the lives of a family by working on this committee!

The Family Support Committee is an instrumental part of Habitat’s goal to be a “people-to-people partnership ministry”. This committee begins to work after the Selection Committee has identified prospective families and the Board of Directors has approved the family. Most of our partner families have no experience with homeownership. Each partner family is assigned a Nurturer from this committee who works one-on-one with the family to:
¨ Develop resources and basic skills to become responsible homeowners
¨ Be an advocate for the family’s needs during construction, including house design, site selection, and medical considerations
¨ Keep track of the family’s Sweat Equity
¨ Provide budgeting guidelines if the family is having debt problems
As a Nurturer you can help families help themselves break away from problems of lack of education, improper nutrition and health care, debt problems, low self-esteem, and frustration. You can make a difference in families lives by being God’s loving representative and helping hand.

Our goal of eliminating low-income housing in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County is a lofty objective that can be achieved by creative and innovative people like you! Different individuals and teams raise funds for home building through many different ways, such as:
¨ Gifts or pledges of funds from individuals
¨ Soliciting funds from businesses
¨ Donations of land
¨ Donations of new building materials
¨ Fundraising functions (e.g. Golf Tournament, Radiothon, etc.)
We need your enthusiasm of working to providing housing for those in need, by raising the necessary funds. Please join the fundraising committee and make a real difference in the lives of people in our neighborhoods.

Volunteers are the hands and hearts of our ministry. They put their faith into action and help people who are strangers, to live a better life through simple, decent, and affordable homes. Committee members help the other committees by:
¨ Soliciting volunteers to join us
¨ Processing volunteer applications via the office database
¨ Work with other committees to identify volunteer needs
¨ Staff work needs with the right volunteers
¨ Connect new volunteers with committees and tasks
¨ Host the annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet
If you have organizational skills and enjoy working with a variety of people to make things happen for Habitat, this is the committee for you. Come help us recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for the ministry of Habitat…many different hands make light work!
